Prior to my amazing welder acquisition, I picked up this very stout home-built workbench from a friend at work who had made it with plans from one of those home improvement shows. The top is a sold wood door, with 4x4 posts for support. It fit perfectly in the basement.
It came with extra wood so I added my own touches and built a lower shelf that wraps around the rear supports in a similar fashion to the base. It can support much more weight than it will ever see.
